The Clients

Jackton Estates are a local family-run development and property company. Since 2005, Block Architects have worked with this Client on several local projects including Commercial, Industrial and Residential Projects.

The Brief

We were approached to assist the client in the design and execution of a 370sq.m bar grille on this site close to St James Shopping Centre on the outskirts of East Kilbride. The building was simply to be single-storey and had to provide an engaging front façade to the main road which as it turns out is to the rear of the building. Carparking and servicing were to be to the rear of the building and the building style and palette were to harmonise with the surrounding existing Shopping Centre.

Our Solutions

The Design provides a single-storey steel portal frame building to accommodate public front-of-house seating. The kitchen is open plan to the front of house area and clients can see and smell their food whilst the chefs prepare. A centrally placed bar ensures that the ‘pub’ feel is strong within the space and collectively the open-plan space is a very inviting, vibrant, and buzzing place to go for evening drinks and food.

The external materials sit well against the backdrop of buildings and the layout of the site affords some external seating areas which are a winner in the summer months.

Block Architects assisted with Planning Permissions, Building Warrants, Tender, and Construction Information with some limited involvement during the build process.
