Working with the South Lanarkshire Council Community Wish List and Blantyre Old Parish Church, we now shine a light on a community defibrillator.
Following the completion of Hub South West’s, Build Lanarkshire Programme 2023, Block Architects were introduced to the Community Wish list. The list is a community initiative operated by South Lanarkshire Council where local groups or charities can register their wishes. In the case of Blantyre Old Parish Church, the requirement was to provide a new light adjacent to the existing defibrillator so that the unit was much more readily visible during the hours of darkness.
Blantyre Old Parish Church
The position of the community defibrillator is crucial. Not only does Blantyre Old Parish Church play a prominent role in the lives of many of the local residents, but it is also positioned in a prime location, near High Blantyre Cross. Unfortunately, it is a rather poorly lit area and there was a real need to address this issue.
Installing lighting at the community defibrillator
In association with fellow BNI Sunrise member, Adam Motherwell from Optical Lighting, Fauldhouse, we arranged for the connections and provision of a light, and we are pleased to say that the project has been successful in that the unit is now illuminated and accessible during the evening. Unfortunately, the defibrillator was used following the fitting of the light. Ideally, no one would ever require accessing the defibrillator, but its presence certainly saves lives.
Managing Director of Block Architects, Kenneth Martin, said:
“We are delighted to have worked with Optical Lighting, Fauldhouse to secure the wish for a new external light at Blantyre Parish Church. The Community Wish List is a wonderful initiative. Alongside assisting the Church, we have managed to work with our business contacts to introduce them to the List and I believe some of the wishes have been granted. We are proud to have been involved and will continue to promote the List at every opportunity.”
